Hard to believe it took us this long to try Anchor Porter, being 2012 is the 40th anniversary of this dark San Francisco treat.

That's right, Anchor Porter became the first modern American porter when it was first introduced in 1972.

And it still has that robust, classic porter taste that's unlike some of the sugary, watered down versions of today.

Instead, Anchor is a special blend of roasted pale, caramel, chocolate and black malts, along with top-fermenting yeast.

A dark beer that's somehow light going down, with plenty of hops. Still a classic after all these years.

Here's to 40 more years!
